Grandparent's and Special Friend Day
Grandparents’/Special Friend Day is on Wednesday, October 15th. Mass is at 9:45 a.m. We encourage everyone to come right at the start of school, and you can join your grandchild/special friend in class and walk into church with him or her. After Mass, everyone can visit the book fair, classrooms, and enjoy refreshments following Mass. Students with their last name starting with A-L will visit classrooms and enjoy refreshments from 10:45-11:15, and from 11:15-11:45 they will have a chance to go to the book fair. Students with last names starting with M-Z will have the opposite schedule. It is important that you follow the schedule presented to help with overcrowding. All special friends need to be 18 or older unless they are with a supervised adult. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you next week.
To help with any questions, our KIDS Council students will also be available to help out when needed. KIDS Council members will be stationed at different doorways so that all of our grandparents/special visitors can sign-in and also get a nametag. All visitors should wear a nametag. Visitors should also make sure and sign out when they leave for the day. This will help with the safety and security for our students and staff.
School Accreditation
As I mentioned last year and at Back to School Night, our school is in the process of renewing our accreditation status with the Minnesota Non-Public Accrediting Association (MNSAA). MNSAA is an accrediting association for non-public schools and ensures that schools are following the high standards set by MNSAA, are providing a quality education and staff development, and are continuing to develop long-range plans for the future. A team of eight members will visit our school in January to validate our educational program and to give feedback on our programs. School visits by MNSAA team members take place every seven years. As part of the accreditation process, we would like to gather feedback from parents. The survey asks questions about community relations, student learning, academics, school climate, and Catholic teachings. This survey will be mailed to your homes in the next few days.
Ski Club
At this time, we do not have someone to chair the ski club. This is a position that could be shared by more than one person. Please let me know if you are interested in helping out with ski club. The winter season is soon approaching. If we do not get a chair volunteer(s) by Friday, Oct. 24th, we will not have ski club this year.

Thank you for continuing to save those box tops. We have our first submission deadline on October 31st, so if you could send in those you have at home that would be great! Thank you to everyone who has been cutting them out for me. It saves me a GREAT deal of time! Remember to look at the expiration date – they are in the lower bottom portion of the box top! I cannot send them in if they are expired! This is FREE money for the school
– thanks for all of your support!
We are looking for Nativity graduates who would like to help with the Courage Retreat this year. The date is Tuesday, February 10th from 10:00-3:00. If you can help, please email Mrs. Wagemaker at jane.Wagemaker@nativitybloomington.org.
Thank you to the following 6th grade parents for chaperoning Camp St. Croix: AJ Cassidy, Kathy Daggett, Brenda and Dave Harley, Ingrid and Dave Klein, Anne Lockwood, Lori Matlon, Katy McGrane, Denise McMullen, Chuck Nelson, Dean Nicholas, Ludy and Tom Peller, Charlie Shirron, and Betsy Stubson. This was a positive and memorable experience for the 6th graders, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the time given by
these volunteers!
In this week's communication folder you will find an information sheet from the MN Department of Health on Influenza (flu). This season, recommendations have expanded to include annual influenza vaccination for all children from 6 months through 18 years of age unless advised differently from their pediatrician.
Bloomington Public Health will be conducting an immunization clinic at Nativity of Mary Church on Tuesday, October 21st, from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Children may receive the influenza vaccine at this clinic, but need to be accompanied by their parent. Most insurance plans can be billed. The immunization is $23 for those without third party payers. Please contact Carol Oldowski (Nativity Parish Nurse) with any questions at 952-881-8671.
One outstanding band student will be featured each month. Their peers and I choose star students for demonstrating exceptional performance skills, strong leadership, or good behavior.
October’s Star Student is John Sticha. John is one of three trumpet players in Nativity’s sixth grade band. This is his second year playing trumpet, and John’s fellow sixth graders voted him Star Student based on his strong performance ability and positive, encouraging attitude in band. Way to go, John!
Remember to turn in your permission form this week if you are planning on attending Trail of Terror on Sunday, October 19th. Remember also - chaperones attend for free!
The Nativity Marketing Committee is meeting now to make plans for our upcoming school recruiting events. If you would like to help us spread the word about our school, please contact Audrey Riddle at mnariddle@comcast.net.
Alumni, Friends and Nativity Students:
Please join us on Sunday, November 16 for the 10:30 Mass. Following Mass there will be a celebration in the Gathering Space to honor Barb Hartle's 40 years of teaching at Nativity of Mary School. We hope you are able to join us in thanking Ms. Hartle for her years of love and dedication.
Each year an increasing number of women are diagnosed with breast cancer at a younger age. 70-80 percent of women who get breast cancer have no family history. Monthly breast self-examination along with a yearly clinical exam is an excellent way to monitor breast health. Follow the mammogram guidelines. Be your own heath care advocate! Breast cancer that is detected early is highly curable. Early detection saves lives!
