Halloween Snacks ideas:

(Candy Rinowski)

Drink:
Take laboratory beakers (purchased at Ax Man) and put red cake decorator jel around the rim. Fill beakers with green punch by mixing together green kool-aid, sprite and melted lime sherbert.

Ice Cream:

Create a “spooky menu” on the computer that you will hand out to the children in the classroom at the beginning of the party.
The menu lists various ice cream toppings, though the students don’t really know what the items are because they are written with a Halloween theme. For example, the menu may read: Leg of Spider (red licorice laces), Eye of Newt (eye gum balls purchased from Oriental Trading), Wart of Witch (raisinettes), Warty Toad (gummy frogs), Maggots (gummy worms), Black Drainage (Hershey’s syrup), Golden Mucus (Carmel Syrup). Mall of America has a good variety of candy stores so you can really use your imagination !
Collect the student’s menu choices and make up their ice cream bowl while they are playing their games or making the craft.

Witches Hat Cookies
(Anne Tacl)

Purchase a package of Fudge Striped Cookies, Hershey chocolate kisses, and orange cake frosting in a tube. Place the Hershey kiss on the center of the cookie and squeeze orange frosting around the base of the Hershey kiss to trim the “witches hat”. Kids may make this snack at the party or you may make them ahead of time.

Halloween games:

Halloween Bingo:

(Cindy Olstad)

Create on your computer a Halloween Bingo game by using Halloween clip art such as bats, cats, pumpkins, witches, ghosts etc.

Color code 5 rows, and put the 5 different pictures in different spots in each column. Print out bingo sheets for each student. Print out an extra bingo sheet and cut pictures into squares. Put the cut out clip art squares into a bowl and draw them one by one calling out the Halloween picture that was pulled (ie: yellow bat, orange ghost, red cat). Children may use candy corn or other types of candies as markers on their bingo sheet. The parent draws from the bowl until all clip art squares are gone. The whole classroom will fill all their bingo sheets at the same time so everyone is a winner.

Halloween Walk:

(Jill Schreiber-Smith)

*Create Halloween phrases that kids can “act out’ while walking across the classroom.

For example, you can say “float like a ghost”, “cackle like a witch”, “sneak like a cat”, “walk like Frankenstein”, “hoot like an owl” , “rattle your bones like a skeleton” etc.

*Bean Bag Toss and/or Penny Pitch:

(Jill Schreiber-Smith)

Toss Bean Bags (use “Halloween” themed bean bags like spider, bat, frog if you can find them) into a witches cauldron.

Toss pennies into a large jack-o-lantern face that is placed on the floor.

*Digging for Spiders

(Colleen Dillaway)

Prepare a large amount of spaghetti noodles according to package. Drain and let cool. Lightly toss noodles in vegetable oil to create a “slimy” feel to them. Put noodles into a large orange plastic pumpkin trick- or- treat bucket. Purchase plastic black spider rings or other type of Halloween rings and place them into the bucket of noodles just prior to the party. Mix the rings around toward the bottom. Have the students come up to the bucket and “dig” for their surprise. One ring per student. Be sure to have hand wipes and paper towels to dry their hands off after they are done!

*These game works well if you are dividing up the classroom and rotating them from station to station.

Halloween Crafts:

Halloween Spider:

(Sandra Sullivan)

Paint halved Styrofoam balls black prior to the party date. Bring to party and have the students add black pipe-cleaners (pre-cut to size) for the spider legs. Use glue to hold pipe

cleaners in place. Add a few drops of red glitter paint on the front of the Styrofoam to create “eyes” on the spider. A magnet can be attached to the bottom of the spider to make a great decoration for the refrigerator.

Halloween Door Hangers:

These foam door hangers can be purchased at Michael’s Craft Store. Using various Halloween foam stickers, have the children decorate their hangers any way they’d like. Use Halloween colored paint pens and have the kids write spooky words on the door-hangers.

Halloween Wristbands:

Same as above (purchase foam wristbands at Michael’s---using Halloween colors like orange, yellow , black). Have kids stick a few small Halloween foam stickers to the band. Pre-cut small squares of Velcro (with adhesive on the back) and attach them to the ends of the band so that the kids can wrap the foam wristband around and fasten them.
