Historical American Research Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to practice the skills of researching, writing a paper, creating a bibliography, and working in Powerpoint. In addition, this assignment will allow you to learn about a person who is historically important.

Your project must contain the following elements:

A paper that covers the following information about the person you selected:

                  Birthplace

                  Childhood

Reasons why this person is a historical figure

                  Accomplishments of this individual

                  Information about his/her family

When and where this person lived

Information of this person's death (If deceased)

Any other information that is important or interesting about him/her

Your paper should be written in 5 paragraph essay form. Check out his link for tips and examples. It should be the main focus of this project. It should contain more information than your PowerPoint, and be completed before creating your PowerPoint. If your paper is less than 750 words long, seriously consider adding more information.

Your PowerPoint should be a summary of your paper. Only include the most important and most interesting information from your paper.

Your PowerPoint presentation should contain exactly 3 pictures and should be at least 7 slides in length. All slides, with the exception of your title slide, should contain pertinent information.

Your research must contain information from at least 3 different sources. One of your sources must be a book. The all sources must be brought to class and shown to Mr. Robertson.

You will be given lots of class time for your project. Your project should reflect the amount of time given.

Plagiarism, as always, is not allowed. Make sure all of your information and pictures are cited in your bibliography. Make sure information is paraphrased or quoted correctly.

Graphics, animations, and transitions are needed in your PowerPoint, but should be used sparingly. Graphics, animations, and transitions should add to the presentation, not be a distraction. Make sure your presentation has a good flow to it before you present. Time consuming or obnoxious animations should be avoided.
