Daggett Daily

                        Week of January 9 and 16, 2012

This Week:

Letter sound Cc and reading word have.  We will read The Mitten by Jan Brett and next week we will read The Hat.  Please return the family activity by next Tuesday.    In Math, we will start a new chapter on numbers 6 thru 12.  We will write and represent these numbers

I will have a sub on Tuesday, so I can do the 2nd test in Dibels.  This helps me to see where the kids are and who needs help in different reading areas.

Flash card snowman attached!  Please practice our reading words.  Look for new ones to come every week.

Wood, Wood and more Wood!  Thanks for sending in wood and nails!! This week we will find out what happens when wood gets wet. Does it sink or float?  Next week we will explore sawdust and wood shavings.  How are they similar?  How are they different?

We will also continue to build our wood sculptures, sand and paint them.

Sharing:  We will celebrate A.A Milnes Birthday on Friday, January 13. Please have your child bring in any Òbear to share.Ó  We will be doing many Òbeary funÓ activities!  If anyone would like to donate Teddy Grahams, gummy bears or any other Pooh thing, that would be great.  Please send it in by Thursday.  Thanks!

Lunch:  I would like to know your thoughts on ÒsecondsÓ. The kids are able to have seconds on corn dogs, chicken patty etcÉIf they have cold lunch they can buy things ÒalacarteÓ I have seen kids throw away fruits and vegetables. I have said no to 2 milks and seconds.  I wanted you to be aware of this policy.  Please send me a note if you are Ok with seconds.  I believe if the kids are taking a fruit/vegy and main course they have plenty of food.   FYI they are not excused from the table until I have seen what they have eaten. Please send me an e-mail if you are Ok with seconds or need me to clarify the policy.  Thanks!

Next Week:

We will spend time learning about and celebrating Martin Luther King. We will take a Peace Pledge and practice being peacemakers. We are hoping for snow so we can get out for extra recess/ reward of a Òsnow dayÓ complete with cocoa and a snowman snack!

Reminders:   please make sure your kids have a sweatshirt.  It is cold in our classroom. I have 4 sweatshirts with no names.  Please let me know if you are missing one!
