Religion

In religion class, our goal is to become like Jesus in our thoughts and actions. Learning and practicing Catholic doctrine is an important part of the curriculum. Students will become familiar with the Bible through the Good News magazines and through memorizing weekly Bible verses. Prayer is an important component of second grade. Wepray daily using formal and informal prayers, special intentions, and classroom and primary level prayer services. Textbooks: Sadlier's Coming to Jesus and Good News, a lectionary-based program centered on the weekly Gospel.

Topics in religion include: The Blessed Trinity, Baptism and Confirmation, The Community of the Church, Prayer, The Bible, Reconciliation, The Mass Celebration, The Eucharist, Mary, Our Mother, and Special Church Celebrations

Many students will receive their first Communion this year, and their first Reconciliation the beginning of third grade. Emphasis will be given to both of these sacraments during second grade.
