I like giving gifts that can’t be bought in a mall and don’t have to be wrapped. So this year one of the greatest gift that I can imagine for all of you is a happy parish all wrapped-up in each other (aren’t I tender-hearted and sentimental!).
Seriously, I am like a father that wants what is best for his family but can’t always afford it. I have long wished that we could offer more around here for our youth and for the young families in the parish, but our budget doesn’t allow us to hire more staff members at this time. So, I gift you to each other!
Would any of you be willing to host a youth event? It could be at your home or here at the parish or at a skating rink or a bowling alley. It could be social, prayerful, educational, or just plain fun. Maybe you could plan something for our college students who will be home soon on Christmas break. Let me know if any of you has any ideas, time, and energy.
Or maybe you would like to plan a family event or get-together. The parish has some money in the budget and can help with some of the expenses. Mostly we just need someone who is gifted in the social skills and people-gathering who can help the people of Nativity of Mary become a gift to one another.
In the days to come I would like to assemble a group of people who can serve on a Nativity of Mary Youth and Young Family Ministry Committee. This would be a group who can propose, plan, and coordinate events throughout the year. If you or someone you know would be willing to participate in this committee, please let me know.
If you’ve ever opened a gift only to realize that the batteries haven’t been included, you know how I feel. There is something really great right in front of you that could be activated – but it just needs a couple of energizers to get it going. Jesus, come with your power.
Thank you! Together we watch for the light of Christ to grow strong among us!
