She chose chocolate double fudge!
It was fun – like playing ice cream roulette. I enjoyed the ice cream more too knowing that she had chosen it for me. She told me that she felt honored to be able to choose my birthday dessert. It was nice because it was almost as if she was there eating it with me.
It reminded me too that I should try more genuinely to let God choose blessings for me. How often we try to dictate to God what we need and what we think is best. God knows us better than we know ourselves. God loves us intimately. Why not give God the honor of choosing our blessings? We might learn to delight more in whatever comes our way. We might also be surprised to see in how many ways God has chosen little gifts of love especially for us.
We might also see that God is right here with us – closer than we might think.
July is National Ice-Cream Month. At some point before this month is over I will be asking somebody to pick an ice-cream flavor for me to eat to celebrate. I might choose you. Don't ask me what I'm in the mood for. Don't ask me if I've ever tried this flavor or that flavor. Just humor me and blurt out a flavor. It will be good for my soul.
