Lent invites us all to consider the ways that we choose to "mix where Rockefellers walk with sticks... with (our) noses in the air... spending every dime for a wonderful time." All the while we have become numb to the suffering around us and the poverty within us.
We certainly should be grateful for all of the good things God pours out upon us. It's not so much that our Catholic faith condemns wealth, but it always asks us to reflect on what we are doing with it.
Onward with Lent and the prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and more genuine thanksgiving.
