Health & Wellness

Our Health & Wellness and Parish Nurse ministry encourage the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of each individual in keeping with their relationship with God, family and community.

The focus of this ministry is to understand the relationship between lifestyle and faith. We look at attitudes towards our health, and through one-on-one care or group learning opportunities, we aim to educate the community on healthy lifestyles rooted in faith. Our ministry works closely with healthcare and social agencies to provide necessary care.

The Parish Nursing Ministry is a specialized practice of nursing that focuses on the intentional care of the spirit

The American Nurses Association recognizes parish nursing, also called Faith Community Nurses, as a specialty and has developed Scopes and Standards for nurses. Each parish nurse completes a training program and continues current with regular educational seminars.

If you are interested in locating a nurse in another faith community or location, please go to the website www.fcnntc.org. Any information shared with a parish nurse is kept confidential. To learn more, please contact Carol Oldowski, P.N.

Lunch & Learn

Since September 2014, the Nativity Health and Wellness Committee has offered a free education program for our parishioners and the community. The Lunch & Learn Series offers a variety of presentations focusing on the health and well-being of each individual and the community.

Programs are offered monthly, September through May. The Lunch & Learn Series takes place in the Gathering Space at 11:30 am with the presentation starting at 11:45 am. We conclude at 1:30 pm. Each person is welcome to bring their own lunch, coffee is provided.

We have provided a variety of presentations over the years. Topics have included:
Scam and Schemes Prevention, Elder Law, Financial Wellness, Emergency Preparedness, Suicide Prevention: a Community Prevention Model, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation, Safe Driving for Everyone, the Opioid Crisis, Climate Change and The Wildflower Project.

Details about each presentation will be published in the weekly bulletin.

Friendly Visitor Ministry

The Friendly Visitors are parish volunteers who provide one-to-one caring presence and socialization to parishioners in their homes while giving respite to the care-givers. Each situation is unique and training and supervision is provided on a case-by-case basis by the parish nurse.

Eye Glass Donations

Nativity of Mary has been collecting used eye glasses to be donated to the Lion's Clubs International and specifically for the Minneapolis Airport Lion's Club for many years. A donation box is located in the Caritas Room on the bookshelf for both youth and adult glasses along with the cases if available. Sunglasses are also appreciated.

Home Health Equipment Loan Closet

Home Health Equipment is something that you don't think about until you need an item. We have been blessed having equipment donated to us allowing us to loan items on a short term basis. If you need an item or have something to donate, please call the Parish Office at (952)881-8671.

Equipment available for loan includes: elevated toilet seats, frames around toilets, commodes, bath stools, canes, walkers, wheel chairs, etc.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Nativity of Mary is blessed to have many dedicated women who knit and crochet beautiful prayers shawls for our parish community. A prayer shawl is intended to be a reminder of God's ever present love. It is a gift for every time and every occasion - joyful or sorrowful - for every season and circumstances of life - chosen or not chosen, when you are weeping or when you are celebrating. Wear it whenever you would like to be reminded of God's loving presence. If you or someone you know would benefit from this beautiful gift, contact Carol.
