Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) Program is a Montessori-based Catholic religious education program which nurtures the child's relationship with God, and educates the child in the faith. Children in the Level I (ages 3-6) program learn that He knows His sheep, calls them by name, searches for His lost sheep, and celebrates the found sheep.

Nativity of Mary will be unable to offer Catechesis of the Good Shepherd this school year (2021-2022).
Please contact Joanne Rachel at the parish office with any questions (, (952) 881-8671 ext. 8071).

COVID Response for CGS in the Atrium

What Do They Learn?

  • Presentations on the life and teachings of Christ to help make the great mystery of God more understandable for the child
  • Through geography, the words of the prophets and infancy narratives, Jesus is established as a real person
  • Parables, prayers, songs, artworks & readings
  • Articles of the Eucharist & Baptism; gestures of the liturgy
  • The Paschal Mystery: Christ has died, Christ is risen, and Christ will come again.

A session in the Atrium (Room 204 near the Parish Office) is 90 minutes long. The Atrium is a sacred space for children, meant to inspire joy, beauty & love. It is a place of prayer, prepared especially for children to contemplate the life of Jesus and the liturgy.

"Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these."
Matthew 10:14

The Atrium is managed by Cathie Baier. For more information on the program, please review this information sheet (PDF) or contact Cathie at
